Back to Dentist and We’re Invisible
Jul 2nd
Today I started out still with the horrible migraine I went to sleep with last night. We had to wake up and get ready relatively early this morning because Meghan(13) and Emily (12) had their dental cleaning and exams this morning so we had to leave by 945am to make it to their appointments. Logan was crying because he wanted to go betu we explained that everyone else was staying home so he would have more than enough people here to watch him. So we kissed him over and over and hugged him twice and pulled out of the drive way waving to him as we pulled out.
As were drove there Meghan and Emily, especially Emily was preoccupied with whether or not she was going to need a root canal. I tried to explain that I was kidding last week about the root canals. We arrived and we could see the nervousness written all over her face. It was a pleasant car ride, just me and Tim and the two girls, nice and quiet.
Emily went into see the dentist first, she came out with a relatively clean bill of health, she had one cavity and needed to have one small baby tooth pulled which they were going to do today. They pulled it with Novocaine. Meghan went next, she was not even nervous. Meghan came out and I am happy to report that she did not even have any cavities. They both need to return in a few weeks for sealants on their adult teeth and Emily needs a retainer on her top teeth to straighten them out as well as needs that 1 cavity filled. By the time we got home it was 1pm and the kids were starving.
We made chicken nuggets and french fries, 2 pounds of french fries, and 3 pounds of chicken nuggets. We got the kids eating and I ran upstairs to get a little work done. Tim worked on writing part of a 3 page grant proposal and I wrote 2 articles and worked on research for for full time job. Next we worked on a grocery list for the next 10 days.
We figured it would be best if we go shopping for 10 days. So I made up a list for 10 dinners, 10 lunches and breakfasts.
Root Canals are Hereditary and Drive Me Crazy Please
Jul 2nd
Like many of my days lately, my day actually began at 1230AM when TJ the oldest got home from work and had to come in to share some very important information. You see his car made it all the way from work on eighth of a tank of gas. He was so shocked that ever since I bought him those new tires last week that his car is even getting better gas mileage. Like it couldn’t wait till the morning………. Now keep in mind that we were sound asleep…..So he interrupted the nice sleep and shared his wonderful news.
So I tried to go back to sleep tossed and turned thought about life, the existence of life, and all the things I would have to do today. Before I knew it I glanced at the clock and it was 145AM, I really had to fall asleep.
So 600AM came and Tim got up and got Logan and Brendan ready for school, they were the only ones who had school. He got them up, dressed, and fed them breakfast. He was the wonderful husband that he usually is and let me sleep.
I woke up at 9AM, it was time to get to work. First we all got up and had breakfast. Breakfast time at our house is never simple, even when 2 kids are at school. Gotta get out 9 bowls, 9 spoons, a gallon of milk, 3 boxes of cereal, and a gallon of orange juice. Even with all of that food they were looking for more, before long a 4th box of cereal was completely used up. You see it all depends on what kind of cereal I buy. If I buy Fruity Pebbles, or Captain Crunch or some other kid oriented kind they eat alot of it. Not only do they eat it for breakfast, but they eat it for snack. I end up going through boxes and boxes of it. When I am smart I buy some boxes of Frosted flakes just to save money.
So I have breakfast and start work. Today is going to be a busy day. We have dentists appointments for Dylan, David and Brendan. Brendan, and Logan have to be picked up from school then we have to go straight over to the dentist.
June was a great month for us, before June we were like many other American families we were uninsured. Talk about a scary and very expensive ordeal. In our case Dylan broke his back during our uninsured period so now we have over $3,000 in bills from him alone. That’s is not counting the bill from David when he had a ruptured eardrum, Logan and his hives or one strep throat attack, or the $600 in medication we pay for every month. So June was a good month because we were able to get the kids on health insurance, not Tim and I but the kids. So they now have health insurance and a really good dental plan. They have never had a good dental plan. They have always received dental care as needed. So now finally they can get everything they need, and I had a feeling it would be well worth it.
So 11AM comes we pick up Brendan and Logan and drive over with Dylan to the dentist office. Dylan goes in first. We are worried that Dylan is going to fight with them. You see Dylan has a fear of needles. We took him to a plastic surgeon last year to fix his cauliflower ear and he would not let the doctor touch his ear, he was going to beat the doctor up. So as you can imagine we were a little concerned at how he was going to act here at the dentist. So when they called his name we sent him in by himself. Driving over they all had lots of questions for us. They wanted to know what was going to happen to them. They cleaned Dylan’s teeth, and gave him a thorough exam. They came out to give us the report. Now keep in mind the last time he went to the dentist for a exam which was 3 years ago, he had no cavities, this time he had 12 cavities and also needs a root canal.
So you wonder what has changed with Dylan, well he has discovered soda, as has David. Now we do not buy soda for the kids. For one it costs to much and secondly it is bad for them. They buy it with their own money and TJ and Bradley buy it and give them some. They also buy alot of candy with their chore money.
Meanwhile, we have been getting text messages like crazy from home from Emily. She has been wanting a play by play update on the dentist appointments. When she heard about Dylan she wanted to know if this meant that she would have to have a root canal because she heart about Dylan’s, we decided to tease her a bit and we told her that it was hereditary and that they would all have to have a root canal. So for the next couple of hours there was a panic back at the ranch, all dealing with root canals.
Next up was Brendan, it was now 1pm, talk about taking forever. Brendan was very grown up he went in by himself, which was nice. His cleaning and exam went well, his report was much better he only had 1 cavity and has a mixture of baby and big teeth.
We then had to wait over an hour for David’s turn, which we all knew would be the worse. David is very very shy. When he was younger he was diagnosed with autism which was later changed to selective mutism which is much more accurate. He does not like to be touched so we knew this would be interesting. The problem is not only does he not like to be touched he does not like his toothbrush. We fight with him all the time about it, I mean all the time. He has a problem with being overly sensitive. When he was in preschool we used to have a physical therapist who used to come to our home to try to desensitize him, guess it didn’t word. Well needless to say he went into the dentist and he had many cavities and needs 2 root canals and 2 caps, I know pretty bad and I can imagine how bad he must have been in the office because his hygienist was not very pleasant.
So after a very long day at the dentist office, we end up getting home at 430pm. It was then that I heard the news about Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. I could not believe that two people that meant so much to this generation could pass away in the same day.
So we got home and tried to catch up with some work that I missed while trying to process all the days events and the deaths of the celebrities. That is when Amanda decided that she needed some attention. Tim and I were sitting on our bed with our laptops. She burst in our room demanding to know why she could not go to her boyfriends house. This was a discussions we had been having for months. You see she could not go to her boyfriends house because her boyfriend was a 17 year old boy and she is a 16 year old girl. We could not trust who would be supervising them at all times. We do not mind it when he comes here as we are certain that someone will always be here to spy or annoy them at all times, but who knows what would happen there. She gets herself so worked up over it. We told her that we were not discussing it now, that we were busy and to leave the room. We told her to come back tomorrow. Emily told her to book an appointment to come and see us.
We ended up getting so wound up with everything that before we knew it, it was already 8pm and we had not gone to wrestling and had not made dinner, and Dylan was complaining that Caesar was out of food. So we took the easy way out,and went to McDonalds. I should say we thought we were taking the easy way out.
We went to the grocery store picked up dog food, food for breakfast and lunch, and beverages, lots of water and diet soda for Tim and I. We went to McDonalds with a very detailed list: 8 McDoubles, 6 McChickens, 6 Small Fries, 2 Happy Meals, 1 Strawberry Milkshake, 3 Hot Fudge Sundaes, and 2 Large Dies Sodas, The Bill $45, and we didn’t even get the kids drinks. To make matters even worse, they were all still hungry.
So we got home at around 845PM, fed them all dinner, demanded that chores got done, and by 930 Logan fell asleep, he was covered in hives again because he fell asleep next to the air conditioner again. And now it is 1130PM and everyone else is still awake. I am sitting in bed watching TV and catching up on work. Emily is sitting here with me reading this over my shoulder I am not sure her umbilical cord was ever cut. We like her anyway. Well thanks for reading, hope you will turn in tomorrow, for more antics.
